Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
He flew a total 12 combat missions from Thurleigh; scheduled for No 7 he was grounded because of ear problems. A replacement gunner was assigned and the aircraft crashed on take-off killing all on board. He was to fly 5 further missions with another crew and returned to the USA with them in October 1944. He then spent a year at Lowry Field Colorado before being discharged in November 1945. He was afterwards the Diagonal IA Postmaster for 27 years.
