Albert Chamrad

35 missions, mostly aboard B-17 'Oregon Queen. ' 24-Dec-44 hit by flak in tail gunner position, Chamrad was not hit. 10-Apr-45, formation jumped by four Me-262's, Chamrad shot down two.



The 17 year-old Albert was sworn in as an Air Cadet in February 1943. After basic training in Greensboro N. Carolina he joined the John Bornstedt crew in Tampa Florida with whom he was to fly 35 missions as tail gunner. Their very first in 'Oregon Queen' was on Christmas Eve 1944 over Koblenz; their last 16th April 1945 to Regensburg. Described by his daughter as ' the most patriotic man I know' Albert devoted his later years to helping others, particularly retired Veterans, serving on many committees concerned with their welfare.
