Youngest Commanding Officer of a USAAF Heavy Bomber Group in ETO is 25-year-old Colonel Eugene A. Romig, of Byesville, Ohio. Graduating from West Point Military Academy in 1939 he was Major and C/O of his Squadron when he arrived in ETO in October 1942. Romig, who has been on 15 missions and holds the Silver Star, the DFC with one Cluster, and the Air Medal with two Clusters, only flies now when his Group leads the combat wing. His wife works in Washington, D.C. for the Navy Department - her address there being 4215 Yuma Street, N.W. - and his mother lives at 910 Troy Avenue, Canton, Ohio.
