On his 6th mission 20-Dec-42 he was serving as the Co-Pilot of B-17F #41-24581 'The 8 Ball' on a mission to Romilly-sur-Seine France. The plane suffered damage. The Pilot, Capt William R. Calhoun, Jr. ordered crew to bale out over England. He and the pilot crash-landed at Bovingdon. All crew members returned. The aircraft was salvaged on 23-Dec-42.
