Eighth Air Force 17Dec44. 418th Bomb Squadron [LD*S], 100th Bomb Group, Thorpe Abbotts (Station 139), Norfolk 13Dec44. Named "Heaven's Angel". Battle damaged on a tactical mission to an autobahn bridge across the River Rhine at Rodenkirchen, Cologne, Germany 10Jan45. During a blind run into the target using PFF, the Mickey operator was about to release the bombs when a break in the clouds showed that the formation was not over the target. The bombardier and navigator took over for a visual run on a secondary target, a railway bridge across the River Rhine at Duisburg, Germany. Moderate and accurate flak was encountered over the target.

Battle damaged on a mission to the Rhenania-Ossag-Mineralölwerke oil refinery at Grasbrooke, Hamburg, Germany 17Jan45. Moderate and accurate flak was encountered to and from the target and intense over the target. Battle damaged on a mission to the Braunkohle-Benzin AG synthetic oil refinery at Böhlen-Rotha, Leipzig, Germany 6Feb45. Because strong winds had pushed the formation off course, the Group made a run on a target of last resort, the railway marshalling yards at Chemnitz, Germany. Moderate and fairly accurate flak was encountered to and from the target. On return with fuel exhaustion, force landed at Florennes (A-78), near Charleroi, Belgium. Battle damaged on a mission to railway marshalling yards at Osnabrück, Germany 19Feb45. Poor beacon reception for bombing using H2X caused the Group to miss the primary target and instead bombed an area to the west of the railway marshalling yards at Münster, Germany. Battle damaged on a mission to a railway marshalling yard at Seelze, Hanover, Germany 14Mar45. There was no enemy fighter opposition; moderate and accurate flak was encountered over the target. Battle damaged on a mission to the Wintershall AG synthetic oil refinery at Lützkendorf, six miles west of Merseburg, Germany 19Mar45. The formation overshot the I.P. for the primary target so diverted to a secondary target, the Carl Zeiss optical instrument works at Jena, Germany. Me 262 jet fighters made an attack north of Chemnitz. Meagre but fairly accurate flak was encountered over the target.

Accident returning from a formation practice flight at Thorpe Abbotts 18Apr45. B-17G #42-32090 was the first to land; the pilot of #44-6817 lined up his approach too close to the first aircraft and, ignoring red flares from the control caravan, continued to land, was unable to stop quickly and ran into the first aircraft. The chin turret, nose compartment and left wing leading edge were badly damaged. Condemned salvage 19Apr45.
