44-67903 Black Jack III
On 23 March 1945, the aircraft was flying as lead ship. It was hit by flak and the left engine caught fire, eyewitnesses reported that the blaze grew to engulf the left wing, but the aircraft was held steady to allow members of the crew to escape. The final crew members succeeded in bailing out before the aircraft started to descend and eventually exploded.
The crew were taken prisoners of war.
