42-100331 Percy
Assigned to 702BS, 445BG, 8AF USAAF. 46 x missions. 27-Sep-44 Kassel mission, shot up by fighters, with one engine out and feathered and a second not developing any where near full power, also with three casualties on board the aircraft. Pilot and Co-pilot struggled manfully as the hydraulics had been shot out, the undercarriage was manually wound down as they attempted to land at Tibenham, but found their selected runway blocked by vehicles and personnel. Low in height and without enough power to circle for an alternate runway, they did all they could and staggered on towards the next airfield, falling short of that aim they affected a force landing at Yew Tree farm, Carleton Rode, two miles short of Old Buckenham's runway. 8 x RTD
