Anti - Submarine Patrols - primarily Bay of Biscay toward the objective of attacking and sinking U-boats transiting to or from North Atlantic patrols from coastal "sub pens" near the border of France/Spain. U.S. Army Air Corps, Eighth Air Force, Combat Unit: 19th Squadron; 25th Anti-Submarine Wing. Date of Missing in Action: July 20, 1943. Same Air Crew previously flew a B-17 stationed Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Canada, flying Atlantic ASW Patrols out of that air base. Notified in late 1942 of pending transfer of the crew from B-17 to a B-24D with activities beginning in Jan 1943 for transfer and training. Reassigned with new aircraft to England, St. Eval airfield, Operational orders received from the Royal Coastal Command; administratively remained under command of the 19th Squadron, 25th ASW Wing.
