Bio

My father, 1st Lt. Dana A. Webb Jr., was a P-51 pilot with the 328th FS and 352nd FG stationed in Bodney, England and Chievres, Belgium from December 1944 - September 1945. His plane, My Evaline, was named after his wife, my mother, Evelyn. While in combat theatre he flew 25 combat missions, 110 hours on fighter sweeps, escort, and strafing missions. Medals included: Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters for meritorious service in accomplishing numerous aerial operational missions over enemy-occupied Europe; Bronze Star Medal; European Campaign Medal with 3 bronze stars representing combat service in Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe campaigns; Upon cessation of hostilities, Lt. D.A. Web Jr., was appointed Provost Marshall and assigned to 472 Air Service Group in Nuremberg Germany as part of the Army of Occupation from September 1945 to February 1946. After the war, Dana "Cobby" Webb attended University of Kentucky and was an aeronautical engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He was killed in 1955 in a F-84 jet on a routine mission. He left a wife, daughter (7y), and twin sons (5y). Both sons became fighter pilots with the USAF. His daughter, Carole Webb Slater, wrote a book based on letters written by her father during WWII. Letters from the Heart 1943-1946 is available to order at your favorite bookstore.
