Bio
My name is Amanda Mesa and I am the granddaughter of S/Sgt. Donald H. Fletcher from the 8th AF, 100th BG, 418th SQDN who flew as the original RWG on the Woodward Crew (#33), "Poontang". Although the Woodward Crew was the original crew for "Poontang", "Poontang" was taken out while the crew was stateside and went down 8/17/1943. Upon returning, the Woodward Crew went out in, and would eventually bail from "The Escape Kit" on September 6, 1943 due to engine failure. This resulted in all of the crew but Woodward (who was interned) becoming German POWs.My mother, Anita Mesa and I have spent many years detailing his history since his passing in 2011 including digitizing a video interview of his accounts to share with historians and other family members of the crew as well. We hope to keep his legacy alive much like all of the men he served with and beyond as part of the Bloody Hundredth. We welcome any information others may have regarding these missions and are always happy to chat about the accounts we have with others as well!
