Please note that the highest rank of US ARMY AIR CORPS pilot James G Curl was Lieutenant Colonel, not Major.  Lt Col Curl was awarded the DSO by King George VI, he was Commanding Officer of the 57th when they destroyed the Nazi’s coming to Tunesia in March, 1943. He was KIA in Germany March, 1945 on his 144th combat mission.The Stars and Stripes stated that it was the biggest air battle since The Battle of Britain
