Bio

I am the granddaughter of LeRoy H. Christensen who served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and later in Air Force to include the Korean War. I have 1/2 a page of his Mission Record with the 729 Bomb Sq (H) 452 with dates from 5 FEB 44- 3 JUN 44. Looks like a total of 30 or 32 missions on the 1/2 page. Appears he was an Engineer TTG and a T/SGT. Also have a copy of the 729th Patch. I had also heard he was a Ball Turret Gunner. He retired from Air Force & unfortunately passed away in ‘91. I didn’t grow up around him much. He didn’t talk about the war(s). I know from my grandmother that he was shot down at least 3 times. Twice over the English Channel? Where he and his buddy didn’t go straight back. They knew if they did he would be put back on shore duty pulling bodies out of water. When they got back, they had given away his stuff, because they thought he was dead. I heard stories how they landed in N. Africa with one engine. And maybe this was later, but Curtis LeMay would not fly without him and held up his flight until he made it. Apparently he was out partying the night before? I’m currently a Colonel in the Army Signal Corps and will be headed to Germany this summer. I have always wanted to learn more.
