Frederick William Ott
MilitaryColonel Ott came to the 390th BG, replacing Colonel Wittan, following a tour of duty as Air Inspector of the 8th Bomber Command. Having previously inspected the 390th , Col. Ott was well versed in the capabilities, past performances, and any shortcomings that the 390th BG may have had prior to his assumption of Command. His outstanding abilities in the field of logistics were of great value during the period of the Russian shuttle missions. His planning and guidance were responsible for the manner in which the aircrews were accomodated and supported while operating away from the home station. He remained with the 390th until early September, 1944.
