Edward Haushalter served as a pilot with the 534th Bomb Squadron of the 381st Bomb Group, flying missions out of Ridgewell, England. He was a passenger on B-17F #42-30732 'Pistol Packin Mama' when it landed short and lost the left landing gear on a local flight and was instructed to attempt a gear up landing at Alconbury. He Returned to Duty (RTD).
On 6 March 1944, Edward was flying B-17G #42-31553 when it was shot down by fighters and crashed SSW of Erkner on a mission to the ball bearing plant at Erkner-Berlin. He was Killed in Action (KIA).
