Derwin D Blankenship
MilitaryFlew 18 missions over Germany -- was shot down on our 18th mission at Oranienburg on 10 April 1945 -- was Prisoner of War (POW) for about 30 days (I called it a walking tour of Germany). We were never in a Stalag camp. The 8th British Army* bypassed us in a little town. Then we started back to Hamburg Germany to be processed out of the country back to good old USA. We were in the last escorted ships back to USA from France. [* Probably the 2nd British Army -- the 8th British Army was in Italy. ]
