Worcester, Massachusetts | 16 January 1941 | Arne was born in Auburn, a son of the late Bror E. and Anna (Sjolund) Bylund and lived here for many years. A decorated veteran of World War II, Arne served in the 57th Bomb Wing of the 340th Bombardment Squadron of the US Army Air Corps. He flew over 80 missions over Europe and was awarded the Air Medal and later the Distinguished Flying Cross with 8 Oak Leaf Clusters. He also enjoyed the annual reunions with his fellow flyers over the years, including attending one this past summer. Mr. Bylund retired from Worcester Wire Works, where he was a wire drawer for many years. |
