13 March 1945 | Shot down by FLAK located at airfield Malmsheim and crashed near Perouse at around 17 'o clock.Temporary burial at local cemetery Perouse.Following the investigation report details: Upon investigation of the MIA status of Flt 0. Jerrald P. Evoritt, ASN T-2944, it was found that he crashed on the 13th of March 1945 just outside of Perous, Germany, which is approximately 10 miles east of Pforzhein, Germany. Flt 0. Evoritt was strafing the Autobaum when flak hit his plane and he went straight into the woods. Wreckage of the aircraft was spread out all through the woods for a distance of about one hundred (100) feet. There was no indications that the pilot was removed from the cockpit for there was no remains left of the cockpit. The tail sectionwas not damaged very much, but was separated from the rest of the sircraft wreckage. The number of the tail was 44-19944 which is the number of the aircraft in which Fit 0. Evoritt crashed.A woman who lives in the second house on the right hand side of the road leaving the aircraft and heading toward the center of the town of Percus, said that the pilot was killed in the crash. She also stated that the pilot was buried in the cemetery, which is about mile from the wreckage, but did not know which grave it was. She then took me to the town Mayor who told her just which grave it was and she then showed me the grave. The grave is located about two graves from the right rear corner and you enter the only gate to the cemetery and next to the left hand wall under a tree. The caretaker of the cemetery made the burial, but did not mark the grave in any way, because no identification was found on the pilot. Instructions were given to the town mayor to mark the grave. | |
