Born |
Syracuse, NY | 17 April 1912 | My father was the oldest of three sons born to first generation Irish-American parents. His father was a tool maker for over 43 yrs. at Crouse-Hinds which is still in existence today as Cooper Crouse-Hinds. My father worked for 40 yrs at Gaylord Bros. Inc now known as Gaylord-Archival. Both companies are still in Syracuse NY. I think in a way the war was actually a highlight in my father’s life. As later on he lost my sister Mary as a toddler in 1950 and his wife Peggy, my mom, (who was a stateside Marine during the war) in 1960. He also had many other hardships and disappointments but he persevered. He passed away in 1985. He would be proud to know he has two great-granddaughters and seven great-grandsons with one (Patrick) having the middle name of Hogan. |

He was my wonderful father. Most called him Bill. His mother called him “Billy” on occasion. He was my only parent from the age of six.
