Murdock and twin brother Thomas Barrineau lived in Waycross, Georgia with their parents and younger sister Stella. Both brothers attended the Waycross High School and after their graduation the family moved to Naples, Florida. Murdock and Thomas both enlisted in February 1943 and both served in Europe in the 8th Air Force.
