On December 23, 1944, he was serving as a gunner aboard “Silver Dollar,” B-26 tail #42-107671, of the 391st Bomb Group (M), 575th Bomb Squadron (M). The bomber was shot down about 30 miles south of their target, the railroad viaduct at Ahrweiler, Germany.

He is buried at the US Military Cemetery at St. Avold, France.
