Sabalaske Sr., 77, of Beaver Court, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born March 14, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre, he was son of the late Joseph and Ruth Krebs Sabalaske. He was employed as a machinist for most of his life by Kanaar Corp., South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, and Cornell Iron Works in Mountaintop. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and served in the 8th Air Force as a waist gunner on a B-24 airplane and was shot down in Germany. He was a prisoner of war for 8 months (SIC, interned in Switzerland). He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Lalko, and brother, Albert and Charles. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Florence Haefele; sons William E. Jr., Mountaintop; one grandson; a brother, Joseph, Wilkes-Barre; a sister, Ruth Wagner, York. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the James M. Desiderio Funeral Home Inc., 2 Academy Road, Marion Terrace, Hanover Township, with the Rev. Bob Boyer officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. |
