Hampden County, MA, USA | Walter J. Lazarz was a Technical Sergeant in the Army during World War II. Walter resided in Hampden County, Massachusetts before enlisting on October 26, 1942. At the time of enlistment, Walter was 19 years old, had 4 years of high school education and was single, without dependents. One year later, Walter was captured by Nazi Germany, and was sent to Stalag 17B near Krems, Austria where 3,219 other American POWs were held. Walter's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1943, and the last report was made on May 22, 1945. Ultimately, Walter was returned to military control, liberated or repatriated. |
