Richard J Faulkner
MilitaryB-17G #42-39830 'Berlin Playboy' collided with another B-17 on a mission to Augsburg, GR on 18 Mar 1944 and crashed WSW of Poix, FR. Listed as Prisoner of War (POW) but he successfully evaded the Germans and spent twenty-nine days with the French Underground. April 16, 1944 he was picked up by boat off the coast of Brest (with a P-47 pilot and a British Captain in the Intelligence) and returned to England. While at sea they were attacked by E-boats and one of the gunners was killed. As a result, Faulkner was asked to 'fill in as a gunner in the British navy'
