Captain G.J. Burris of the 354th Fighter Group demonstrates his invention to illustrate the altitude of aircraft during a raid, 15 December 1943. Printed caption on reverse: 'THE P-51B WORLD'S FASTEST FIGHTER PLANE. Associated press photo shows: Capt. G.J. Burris, of 2529 Nth Cleveland St Canton Ohio, Intelligence Officer of the new group, demonstrates an invention which he uses in the briefing room to illustrate the formation and altitudes of fighters and bombers on long raids over enemy territory. He assigns his squadrons to their proper places by using this multiple- level table. The planes as seen here on the five layers of glass are not in any accepted formation for combat but merely illustrate the use of the gadget. Bombers are in the two lowest levels with layers of fighters above and behind to protect them from the enemy.' Image stamped on reverse: 'Associated Press.'
