LTC Francis Bodine was a Lead Pilot flying in the B-24 ‘Special Delivery’. His first bombing mission from Halesworth was on 31 May 1944 – the day of the first operational mission for the 489th BG. He flew 23 missions from Halesworth and returned to the UnitedStates to train on B-29s. This photograph shows LTC Francis Bodine with Col. Denis Heinz of the newly activated 489th Bomb Group.
