Lt. Vernon E. Chaffee enlisted in Detroit, MI, on 13 October 1942. He flew with the 369th Fighter Squadron from 25 March 1945 through 21 July 1945 when he completed his combat tour of duty having flown five missions with the 359th Fighter Group. He returned to his hometown of Waycross, GA.
