"Europe - Pilot of this 9th Air Force Republic P-47 survived blast of a hung 500 lb. bomb that rolled from plane onto runway upon landing." - 1st Lt Karl T. Hallberg of the 389th FS 366th FG was landing with hung ordnance at Asch airfield (Y-29), Belgium, when the bomb came loose and exploded. Hallberg suffered head injuries, but made a full recovery.
