Colonel Jimmy Stewart, formerly with the 453rd Bomb Group and now 2nd Combat Wing's Chief of Staff, receives the Croix de Guerre from French Lt. Gen. Martial Valin. Official caption on back: "FRENCH HONOR COLONEL STEWART—Col. James M. Stewart of Indiana, Pa., former screen star, now stationed in England, receives the Croix de Guerre with palm for Lt. Gen. Martial Valin, chief of staff for the French A.F., during a colorful ceremony honoring numerous U.S. 8th AF men for the "exceptional services" for the liberation of France. Col. Stewart, chief of staff of U.S. 8th A.F.'s Second Combat Wing and veteran of numerous bombing missions also holds the D.F.C with a bronze oak leaf cluster and the Air Medal with two clusters."
