On the “Demolition Derby” strafing mission to Eggebek airdrome on 13th April, where the 56th claimed 90 destroyed and 81 damaged on the ground, Lt Ernie H Treff claimed three Ju88’s destroyed, which were subsequently confirmed. Not having his own assigned aircraft, his friend Lt Edmund Ellis suggested that Ernie use his P-47 as a photo background for recording the claim, as he had three kill markings already applied. Photo shows Lt Treff on Lt Ellis’ “Blue Eyes” with his left hand very carefully placed on the crew panel so that only Lt. E. E. is visible with Ellis being hidden. Of note is that the K-14 gunsight has been removed, most likely for re-calibration.
