1 January 1945: "Clobber College" at Raydon dubiously celebrates the New Year with a 2-ship taxi accident. Veteran CAPT Gordon S. Burlingame of the 352nd Ftr Sq, 353rd FG at the controls of a war-weary P-51B (serial 43-6800, coded SX-2) led LT Richard E. Hahn in another P-51B (43-6876, coded SX-5). Hahn apparently overran Burlingame, resulting in the damage here. Both aircraft were repaired; Hahn became a POW on 19 March while flying P-51D 44-14631, coded SX-U (MACR 13156). NARA Ref 342-FH-3A05673-69595AC.
