P-38 Lightning Mk I AE979 RAF contract A/C, Alison engined, though both engines rotated in the same direction and turbochargers were not fitted. RAF trials showed A/C unsuited to ETO operational use and returned to USAAF after trials and used as trainers by USAAF.
