Ninety-five German fighters were shot down during heavy, widespread raids by Forts and Liberators yesterday, January 5, when the big bombers spread their blows from Kiel, on the Baltic to Bordeaux, near France's southern coast- 900 miles apart. Over Kiel, swarms of rocket firing planes met the big US bombers which attacked in clear visibility. The Germans hurriedly laid a smoke-screen in an effort to conceal the target, but the bombs were sunk squarely home, starting many fires and causing explosions. Associated Press Photo Shows: S/S Arnold E Puca (Right), of 1417-74th Street, Brooklyn, NY, right-waist gunner who completed his thirteenth mission when he took part in yesterday's (January 5) raid on Kiel, describes how he shot down his first fighter an ME 210, to Sgt CB Christenson, left waist-gunner, of Stevens point, Wisc, and T/Sgt Donald Haynes (centre), radio-gunner, of RFD, Alliance Ohio. Seven ME 210's and ME 110's lined up and attacked Puca's formation, lobbing rocket shells at them, but did not get a single Fortress.'
