William Locke Vaughan
MilitaryAssigned to 828BS, 485BG, 15 AF USAAF. Failed to return Linz, Austria 20-Jan-45 in B-24 42-52718 'Valiant Lady'; ran low on fuel, heading for the emergency strip on Viz Island, Yugoslavia. Engines cut out 2 miles short of the runway and was ditched into Viz harbour, whereupon the ship broke into two and sank. The crew at the front of the ship drowned including William. Killed in Action (KIA)
