Military ROLL OF HONOUR

Killed in Action (KIA) 21 June 1944 in B-24 #4295130. The crew of 2nd Lt. Joseph D. Salisbury ditched in the Channel on 21 June 1944. A battle casualty report was submitted on 22 June listing all as missing in action. Four members of the crew, Lt. Salisbury, Lt. Pease, F/O Drake and Sergeant. Roby were able to ditch successfully and were picked up by air sea rescue launch 22 hours after the crash. A change of status was submitted on 25 June 44 listing the four survivors as RTD. From interrogation: After the crew ditched, there were three officers in the water and the engineer (Sergeant Roby) was on top of the plane. Sergeant Roby was able to get a life raft out of the plane and the four men climbed into it. The roughness of the water prevented their rescue until 22 hours after the crash. No other men were seen and they presumed that the remaining members of the crew went down with the plane.
