SGT William F. Humprey joined the 710th Bomb Sqdr late March 1944. He became a crewmember of Lt Homer Champlin for most of his missions. On 29 April, his tenth mission, the crew encountered heavy FLAK during their bombing mission on Berlin. One hit the tail of the B-17, severely wounding Sgt Humphrey whose leg and arm were blown off. The crew made it safely back to Rattlesden.
