10 January 1943, as a member of an Antisubmarine squadron, B-24 41-23923 was involved in a runway accident at RAF St. Eval. An RAF Whitley swung off the runway and collided with the Antisubmarine B-24. Both ac caught on fire and depth charges from the plane exploded. 7 survived but 4 were killed in the non-operational accident. Squadron was under the administrative control of the 8th, but operational control of RAF Coastal Command
