Sam Houser Young Jr
MilitaryAssigned to 336FS, 4FG, 8AF USAAF. While attempting to dodge flak collided with section leader Lt 'Millie' Millikan. Lt Sam Young Jr bailed out safely and was captured just outside the village of Piethen. POW 30-May-44. MACR 5489.
Awards: AM, POW, WWII Air Medal, EAME Campaign Medal
Millikan also bailed out and was captured. Both pilots interred Stalag Luft 3, Sagan Poland. Marched Jan 1945 in "long March to Freedom " liberated April 30 , 1945 at prison at Moosberg W Germany by units of Patton's 3rd army.
