MilitaryOn 20 Feb 1944, B-17G #42-40004 crashed nearTuttingdon, Norfolk due to a fire breaking out on board caused by a malfunctioning flare gun after forming up with the group on an operational mission. The crew baled out but the pilot and co-pilot stayed aboard because the top turret gunner was trapped in his position. All three were killed in the crash. RTD. Shot down 27 May 1944 in B-17 #4297603 'Gremlin Buggy II. ' Crashed in Switzerland. Interned.
