Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
He was working at the Iowa Ordnance Plant when he was called up in January 1943 and attended Radio and Gunnery schools. In February 1944 his crew picked up a B-17, flew to England and joined the 34thBG at Mendelsham. They flew on six missions before VE Day- once having to bail out when descending for landing the plane went into a flat spin and the pilot lost control. They afterwards took part in 'Operation Chowhound' over Holland and in ferrying back POWs.
After finishing college he worked for the US government as a radio and TV writer on documentaries.
