Meek] of the 487th Bombardment Squadron, co-pilot in the Wing ship of the three chaff ships, 30 seconds ahead of the formation, was instantly killed by flak piercing his flak helmet. Bio by Robert H Meek Jr (son) Robert was co-piloting a B-25 tail number 7Z nick named Shirley Ann of the 487th BS. 7Z was the left wing of the 3 plane chaff element leading the 340th BG attack on the Magenta Bridge northwest of Milan Italy. The chaff element went in first with chaff and white phosphorus bombs to try and suppress the radar controlled anti aircraft guns. A flak shell exploded just to the right and slightly above my Dad. A piece hit him in the head killing him instantly and wounding three other including the pilot Lt. Wentz. The pilot was able to get the plane back to Corsica saving the rest of the crew. My Dad was buried on Crosica and then moved to the Sicily Rome American Cemetery. He never saw me let alone his three grandsons and four great grandchildren. Rest in peace Dad, we miss and love you.
