466th BG Combat Tour

Attlebridge, Norwich, Norfolk NR9, UK 5 October 1944 - 31 March 1945 36 Combat missions "Perhaps the most extraordinary thing about our tour is we flew 35+ missions with no one on the crew sustaining injury. One of the most memorable missions was when we lost #1 engine over Germany and split 'S'ed over the target, recovering at 12,000 feet all alone. Amazingly our bomb load was still on board and had not gone crashing through the bomb bay doors, or worse. We salvoed the bombs in the North Sea and made for home. We landed safely but the airframe was so badly twisted the plane had to be scrapped." - Robert F. Jonas
