Richard Vincent Bolan
MilitaryHe registered for the WW II draft on 16 October 1940; he was 5' 11" tall and weighed 150 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes and a 'light complexion'. His Employer was listed as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Washington, D.C.
We have Lieutenant Bolan listed on the 437th TCG Special Orders #195, dated 27 December 1943. These were the orders generated at Pope Field (Fort Bragg, NC) for the first phase of movement by air and by rail of the 437th personnel to their eventual overseas deployment. We have him listed as the Pilot of CG-4A #43-40113, Chalk #29, participating in Mission DETROIT on 06 June 1944.
He and his co-pilot (as well as their two passengers) were listed on the MACR #6474. The Pilot and Co-pilot of the tug ship, in their 28 June 1944 statements described that the glider tow rope appeared to have been shot off and they did not know what happened as they were in severely poor visibility conditions. One website indicates that Lt. Bolan was injured in the crash (tibia fracture) and he was treated at the Rennes, France hospital
