Flew on B-17 'Ye Olde Pub', pilot was Charles Brown. The plane was so damaged that the German pilot Franz Stigler, felt so sorry for the crew and stayed with them and directed them toward England. Years later after the war they met at a 379th BG Reunion This was Pechout 2nd mission flak & fighters-- frostbite. Hospitalized in England at 2nd Gen Hosp 12/20/43 to 04/09/44. Returned to ZOI 04/22. Requested return to flight status and flew with new crew to 384th. Shot down on 10th mission in A/C #43-38850. Prisoner of War (POW) to 20 April 1945. Liberated. Hospitalized in Nancy, Fr, returned to States 06/06/45
