Richard H Mungenast
MilitaryShot down 14 October 1943 in B-17 #42-30453 'Thunderbird. ' Crash landed in France. Prisoner of War (POW).
POW
Landed in the area of Epernay (Marne). Seriously injured - Operated by Doctors MACHET and MORAUX at the home of Mr and Mrs Pierre SERVAGNAT in Epernay. He then found himself after a long convalescence in QUIMPER where he was taken care of by Yves LE HENAFF who had to send off a fishing boat with airmen and many French Resistance fighters including Pierre BROSSOLETTE one of the heads of the B.C.R.A close to General DE GAULLE. There were two tests and the second time, the little pinnace was wrecked and the Germans arrested many passengers and Resistance fighters including Yves LE HENAFF (who died of suffocation in the train which took him to deportation) and Pierre BROSSOLETTE who committed suicide in PARIS not to speak. To date, I do not yet have proof that Richerd MUNGENAST was in the wrecked boat, the research is in progress.
