On November 5, 1943, he was the Copilot aboard “Big Assed Bird,” B-24 tail 42-7490, of the 392nd Bomb Group, 578th Bomb Squadron, when it was downed over Udem, Germany.

He is buried at Davenport Memorial Park in Davenport.
