After returning from the war, Ray, his wife, Jean and 4 children moved from Ohio to Las Vegas, Nevada. Ray opened an appliance store and then became involved in local politics. He was the Municipal Judge for North Las Vegas from 1967 to 1976 and then the Mayor of North Las Vegas from 1976 to 1981.
He passed away 27 November 2000 and was survived by his wife Jean Daines; sons Russ Daines, Mel Daines, and daughters Marcia Daines and Marti Daines. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
