December 18, 1943, on ferry flight to Langford Lodge in P-51B#43-6495 Visibility was poor with heavy rain when the cockpit canopy blew off. Blinded by rain and slipstream, he bailed out and was injured with fractured femur, facial abrasions and mild shock. RTD
