"My Dad is on the top row second one in from the left. Shortest one on top. The smallest ones were bombers because they fit in the small area. The tall one to the left of my Dad is the pilot. Dad said they were always very tall. We cannot identify the crew members without my Dad being here. Sorry about that. Wish I had that info for you."

From Winona Daily News obituary:

He was born July 26, 1922, to Ralph Sr. and Anna (Kronschnabl) Haines in Arcadia. He graduated from high school in 1940. In 1942, he was accepted in the Aviation Cadet Program for serving in the Army Air Corps. Completing preflight training, he attended aerial flexible gunnery school and advanced bombardier school. After completing bombardier school in 1943, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and was assigned to a B-24 Liberator Bomber with the 409th [490th] Bomb Group, 850th Squadron.



Upon arrival in England in early May 1944, his squadron was reassigned to the 801st Provisional Group for combat operations with the 8th Air Force. He completed 35 combat missions in December of 1944 and returned to the United States in February 1945.



On March 21, 1945, he married his fiancée Eunice Sendelbach at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee, Wis.
