Auxiliary pilot chute signed by members of the US 82nd Airborne Division and red rip cord, from the New Inn pub, Hinckley, Leicestershire.
Beige auxiliary pilot chute, with 26 inch nylon canopy decorated with hand-drawn illustrations, messages and signatures of members of the US Army's 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion; complete with eight twines coming together in a knot used as a ripcord. IWM Collection EQU 15194
Pershing Lee Baldwin enlisted in the US Army in March 1941, and joined the 82nd Airborne Division. He served with HQ Battery of the 376th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion until 23 September 1945, when he was honourably discharged. He received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago in 1948, and worked as school teacher until 1978. Baldwin was killed in a traffic accident in Tahiti in 1981.
