Morris W Fessler

Military

Joined RAFVR, trained as a service pilot, converted onto Spitfire, assigned to 71[Eagle] Sqn RAF.
Force landed Spitfire AA855 on Rhubarb to France due to damage caused on a strafing run on a locomotive, having set fire to his A/C evaded enemy and sought assistance at a local farmhouse, but handed himself in on finding that the farmer and his wife would be likely to be executed as an example if they were caught. POW.

(NB: multiple photos exist showing AA855 after its crash-landing, so either Morris did not set fire to his aircraft or the attempt failed)
